CIRCUS ATLANTIC is the recreational program of the Circus Conservatory of America. We offer youth and adult training and performance opportunities in an intensive and non-competitive environment. At Circus Atlantic you will find a staff of circus professionals dedicated to teaching and inspiring bold new artists.
Circus Atlantic provides an environment of safety and expertise, where students may explore a diverse offering of classes to find their own path as artists. Circus Atlantic instructors combine time-honored training techniques with a keen sensitivity to the frequent evolutions of modern circus performance. At the heart of Circus Atlantic is a deep respect for creativity, dedication and discipline. We welcome students of all ages, backgrounds, and ability.
During the 2013-2014 academic year, we operated pilot programs in schools and gyms around greater Portland. In autumn 2014 we will be opening 6,700 square feet of newly renovated training space on Thompson’s Point in Portland, right next to where we are preparing to build the 45,000 square foot Conservatory facilities. We will offer age-specific classes designed for K-12 students, college students, adult learners, and families.
Our new space is currently under construction and will be ready for ocupancy November 1. MEANWHILE, we will operate in temporary facilities on Thompson Point and start classes in September.
FALL 2014 CLASSES
Classes start September 8 on Thompson’s Point in Portland, Maine.
No classes Thanksgiving week.
No classes September 12, 13, or 14 (these will be rescheduled at the end of the semester).
GENERAL CIRCUS ARTS
Equipment may include: Juggling balls, clubs, plates, diabolo, devil sticks, unicycle, tight-wire, stilts, hula-hoop, rolling globe, rola bola, trapeze, aerial fabric, lyra, Spanish web, rope, straps, trampoline.
5-7 year olds
10:00 – 11:00 am
1 hour per week / 14 weeks
An introductory class for the younger aspiring circus artist. In this course, youngsters can build the strength and skill needed for future high-level circus. Students try their hand at all circus disciplines over the course of 14 weeks. This playful group works with balance equipment, juggling basics, aerial skills and acrobatics, including trampoline and human pyramids. Students in this class get to explore their skills while building the basics of coordination, agility, flexibility, teamwork and aerial awareness.
8-13 year olds

First-time students welcome! Introducing the wide world of Circus Arts! In this course, students discover the fundamentals of balance, the challenges and successes of juggling and object manipulation, the exhilaration of aerial skills and the resilience of rebounding with acrobatics, trampoline and human pyramids.
14-18 year olds

First-time high school students welcome! Introducing the exciting world of Circus Arts! In this course, students learn to perfect the fundamentals of balance,experience the challenges and successes of juggling and object manipulation, the exhilaration of aerial skills and the resilience of rebounding with acrobatics, trampoline and human pyramids. Emphasis in this class to conditioning the physical body and strengthening students abilities in coordination, agility, flexibility, teamwork and aerial awareness.
Adult Circus Arts
Mondays 7:00 – 9:00 pm

Have you ever had the desire to hang from a trapeze, confidently stand on someone’s shoulders, or perfect the tumbling that you learned as a kid? Do you want to juggle and ride a unicycle? We can teach you! This is your chance to work on these skills and more. In these classes, we will work together to train the disciplines of Circus Arts that you’ve always wanted to do, while at the same time improving your strength and flexibility through circus-style conditioning, perfecting balance, coordination and spatial awareness through tumbling and aerial work. Knowledgeable coaches and safe spotting techniques will support your success in these classes. Come have some fun with Circus Atlantic! Open to all fitness levels and experience.
Intermediate Youth Circus Arts
7-13 year olds
Tuesdays and Thursdays

4 hours per week / 14 weeks
Classes will focus on increasing technical skill and supporting the students to learn more advanced tricks in their favorite disciplines. In this course, students will work on increasing equilibristic skills, push their juggling and object manipulation knowledge, and advance all aerial skills and acrobatics. Students in this class may be asked to take part in an end-of-session performance.

College Circus Club
Training: Saturdays 11:00 am – 1:00 pm
Juggle Jam: Saturdays 3:00 – 4:30 pm
Open Gym: Sundays 2:00 – 4:00 pm
5.5 hours per week / 14 weeks
This is the sweetest deal we offer! $99 gets you into the Circus Atlantic College Club for the entire semester. Join us for circus workouts and training every Saturday from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm, attend open gyms and juggle jams as you wish, and get preferred access to our training environment at discounted rates. Throughout the semester, we will practice tumbling, aerials, juggling and a variety of other surprise Circus Arts. College Club events, including live music and other entertainment, will be planned throughout the year. Open to all college-age students.
13 – 17 year olds

This is our introduction to aerial arts for youth aged 13 – 17. Aerial training will challenge you in healthy and powerful ways! From increased strength and flexibility to conquering fear of heights, our aerial class accommodates all fitness levels. Apparatus include: Static trapeze, straps, rope, dance trapeze, fabric, lyra, Spanish web and aerial hammock.

Circus Atlantic Performance Troupe

6 hours per week / 14 weeks
This auditioned group is focused on training the skilled circus student for performance. Classes will focus on increasing technical skill, building creativity, working on performance techniques and participating in annual shows. All Circus Arts disciplines will be considered. Additional rehearsal times may be scheduled in advance of performances. Come join our community of jugglers! The best way to practice skills and be inspired to learn new techniques is to be immersed with a diversity of skill levels. All ages, skill groups and juggling equipment welcome. Our juggling resources, both equipment and teachers, are available during these blocks.
