Classes

 

Circus Atlantic is the recreational program of the Circus Conservatory of America. We offer youth and adult training and performance opportunities in an intensive and non-competitive environment. At Circus Atlantic you will find a staff of circus professionals dedicated to teaching and inspiring bold new artists.

Registration for the Winter 2015 Session is open enrollment. You may join a class at any time and your tuition will be prorated based on the number of weeks left in the session. We are flexible and committed to creating the opportunity that best suits your schedule throughout the year.

CIRCUS ARTS

General Circus Arts 5-7

An introductory class for the younger aspiring circus artist. In this course, kids can build the concentration and motor skills necessary for the first levels circus training. Students try their hand at many of the techniques on which all circus disciplines are based, over the course of 14 weeks. Presented in an imaginative way with lots of games and pretending, students learn balance and timing, how to throw and catch, jump and tumble, and try until they succeed. Students in this class get to explore their skills while building the basics of coordination, agility, flexibility, teamwork and aerial awareness.

Have you ever had the desire to hang from a trapeze, confidently stand on someone’s shoulders, or perfect the tumbling that you learned as a kid? Do you want to juggle and ride a unicycle? We can teach you! This is your chance to work on these skills and more. In these classes, we will work together to train the disciplines of Circus Arts that you’ve always wanted to do, while at the same time improving your strength and flexibility through circus-style conditioning, perfecting balance, coordination and spatial awareness through tumbling and aerial work. Knowledgeable coaches and safe spotting techniques will support your success in these classes. Come have some fun with Circus Atlantic! Open to all fitness levels and experience.

Intermediate Youth Circus Arts

Classes will focus on increasing technical skill and support the students in learning more advanced tricks in the circus disciplines of their choice. In this course, students will work on increasing equilibristic skills, pushing their juggling and object manipulation knowledge, advancing all aerial skills and developing a higher level of acrobatics. Participation requires previous experience and passing a test of entrance requirements. Students in this class may be asked to take part in an end-of-session performance.

Circus Atlantic Performance Troupe

This auditioned group is focused on training the skilled circus student for performance. Classes will focus on increasing technical skill, building creativity, working on performance techniques and participating in annual shows. All Circus Arts disciplines will be considered. Additional rehearsal times may be scheduled in advance of performances.

Circus Atlantic College Club

This is the sweetest deal we offer! $99 gets you into the Circus Atlantic College Club for the entire semester. Join us for circus workouts and training every Friday from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm, attend open gyms and juggle jams as you wish, and get preferred access to our training environment at discounted rates. Throughout the semester, we will practice tumbling, aerials, juggling and a variety of other surprise Circus Arts.

Build all the specific strength necessary for a well-rounded mastery of acrobatics and aerial skills. Getting stronger is the fastest way to make progress in your favorite circus discipline. Progressive training techniques and an emphasis on quality, and not quantity, makes this a good class for all levels. Strength conditioning for circus skills helps to support joints, improve movement, raise energy levels, and reduce injuries both in training, and in the rest of your daily life.

Flexibility Conditioning

Getting flexible takes a long time. Get a head start with this class designed to activate your flexibility and put you on a faster track to your flexibility goals. Whether you want to finally get your splits, improve your back-bending, or just want to touch your toes, progressive training techniques make this a good class for all levels. Flexibility conditioning reduces stress in the body, improves range of motion, strengthens joints, and tones muscles.

Open Gym

Juggle Jam

Come join our community of jugglers! The best way to practice skills and be inspired to learn new techniques is to be immersed with a diversity of skill levels. Circus For Homeschool Students

This class is for students who are home schooled and looking for a physical education class. It is designed to build body coordination, physical fitness and artistic movement through the fun and challenging skills of circus arts. Students learn about balance and timing, aerial skills, jumping and tumbling, how to throw and catch, and try until they succeed. In addition, students will participate in performance, movement, and trust games designed to develop creative movement, and show the value of relying and supporting each other. Clear explanations and step by step learning make it easy for students of all skill levels to participate and grow.

Chinese Pole

Chinese Pole is a class covering various acrobatic and strength style movements on 4 meter long poles. Deriving from China, many classical movements from the country will be covered as well as newer styles of European and American pole moves.

Handbalancing

Handbalancing is the act of supporting the body in a stable, inverted vertical position by balancing on the hands. There are many variations of handstands, but in all cases a handstand performer must possess adequate balance and upper body strength.

Partner Acrobatics

Acrobalance is an acrobatic art that combines elements of adagio and hand balancing. It consists of partner lifts, usually performed by a man and a woman, where the male lifts his female partner in many different poses and positions. Many forms of adagio also incorporate throws and tosses; the male usually throws the female into somersaults, layouts, and other acrobatic maneuvers.
